Mighty Gunvolt Burst has been one of my most consistently enjoyed platformers on the Switch. Bringing together characters and ideas from Azure Striker Gunvolt and Mighty No. 9, it does a wonderful job of replicating the Classic Mega Man formula while also offering new and interesting ideas. A great deal of these newer and varied concepts have come from its multiple DLC characters, who all manage to shake things up and offer new challenges.

The game’s just bumped up to version 1.4, adding in a new character from the Gal*Gun series to make their way through the game and take on the Mighty Numbers. Have a look at Tenzou in action and see what he can do:

With some angelic help and using his slide technique, Tenzou’s mobility doesn’t sound half bad. It’s the series’ Doki Doki Mode being adapted to a 2D pixel platformer that has me interested though, as it allows him to aim better once a special meter is filled.

You can grab Tenzou once his DLC drops tomorrow, April 24th, as well as the rest of the previously released characters, for $1.99 each on the eShop. Likewise, you can give the game a try with its free demo version, where if you carry over data to the full game you’ll unlock fellow Gal*Gun character Ekoro free of charge.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
