The number of callbacks and subtle references in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is staggering, and yet people continue to find or point out new ones all the time. This latest discovery is found in the game’s Trial of the Sword, with its seven monks striking some very familiar poses — and you might not have recognized them at first glance.

That’s right, each one mimics one of Ocarina of Time’s sages. During the final fight against Ganon, Zelda rallies the sages to seal him away for good. In doing so each one strikes a pose unique to them, including Zelda herself. Those same poses were brought back for Breath of the Wild, which ironically opens a few doors as far as lore is concerned.

Could these monks be Breath of the Wild’s own seven sages? Is it simply a reference to a timeless, time-filled adventure? What does it mean for every other monk and sage who’s appeared in the series? All I know for sure is that I really want to play more Breath of the Wild, and with just how massive it all is I’m sure I can still manage to find something new.
