Yesterday’s Direct ended with an announcement we were all waiting for – Super Smash Bros. for Switch. We know surprisingly little about it, however, with the only development credit being given towards Nintendo and HAL Laboratory for the “Original Game”, likely calling back to the Nintendo 64 original rather than confirming anything about the team behind the new game.
Since then we’ve got at least one developer confirmation, however, from the father of the series himself: Masahiro Sakurai. He tweeted out the following message, which has kindly been translated by Source Gaming:
いまはまだタイトルを発表しただけの段階ですが、黙して日々制作に取り組んでいます。内容公開、あるいは発売できるその時まで、お待ちください!! https://t.co/vnfNUoGZ0J

“Right now we’re just at the stage where we revealed this game, but I’ve been working on this game in silence day after day. Please wait until we can release more information, or until release day!”
This likely means Sakurai’s studio Sora will be working on the game and it wouldn’t be surprising if Bandai Namco is lending a hand once more.
We’ll be sure to bring more on Smash Bros. for Switch in the weeks and months to come.
