We knew it was coming thanks to trends in sales figures but it’s still quite the surprise – the Switch has outsold Nintendo’s last system, the Wii U, in just nine months.

The latest sales figures reveal that as of December 31st, 2017, 14.86 million Switch units have been sold, compared to the Wii U’s lifetime 13.56 million, which was garnered after five years of production.

The next set of financial results will be available following the end of the fiscal year in March, meaning we’ll have a solid idea of just how well the Switch’s first full year went. Here’s hoping the momentum keeps up!
