Upcoming rhythm platformer Runner3 is set to receive a physical release for the Nintendo Switch, according to a press release sent out by publisher Nicalis, Inc.
The decision to ship a retail version of the game came about after its developers realized it was “deserving” of it.
“Some games just belong on physical cartridges, and this is clearly one of the most deserving,” said Nicalis president Tyrone Rodriguez in the press release.
Runner3 was announced in September 2016 before being revealed as a Nintendo Switch-exclusive in February 2017.
The game is a continuation of the Runner series developed by Choice Provisions, which started with the multi-platform Bit.Trip Runner in 2010 and saw a sequel in 2013 when Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien was released.
The game features the character CommanderVideo, who runs forward automatically while players jump, slide and kick their way through obstacles.
Voice actor Charles Martinet, best known as the voice of Mario and many other Nintendo characters, lends his talent to the game, as well.
“We know everyone’s going to love Runner3, but I’ll bet you’re going to love it even more in tiny little cartridge form,” said Choice Provisions co-founder Alex Neuse.
“Just try not to lick it–play it!” added fellow co-founder Mike Roush, referring to the infamous “nasty” taste of Switch cartridges.
Runner3 will hit retail locations and the Nintendo Switch eShop in “early 2018” with a suggested price of $39.99.
