It’s time to lace up your Red Hi-Horses, throw on a Juice Parka and rock some Squidfin Hook Cans in anticipation of Splatoon 2’s newest Ranked Mode. That’s right, Clam Blitz, which debuted in last month’s trailer covering the game’s future updates, launches tonight.
Thanks to the Squid Research Lab and Nintendo Versus, we’ve been given a detailed summary about the mode from Nintendo Treehouse’s Corey and Eric. They give a play-by-play look at how a match can go down.
Borrowing that penalty counter from Splat Zones, the same feature is implemented in Clam Blitz. If you thought you could just Rainmaker your way through to the map and hit 100 clams, then you’re going to have to rethink your strategy.
Gathering ten clams will get you a Power Clam. Before chucking in your clam haul, you’ll have to break the barrier on the net with a Power Clam. From there it’s a free-for-all until the barrier comes back and/or is being splatted by the enemy. If you find yourself on the receiving end of an enemy invasion trying to win the match, don’t worry too much. That penalty counter will kick in and automatically give your team a Power Clam to take on those darn Bad Guys.
You’ll be able to jump right into Clam Blitz tonight at 6 p.m. PT | 9 p.m. ET once you’ve installed the Version 2.1.0 update.
