Pokémon revealed a new promo video and it’s bringing a new twist on battles and Pokérap by having Mimikyu and Pikachu step up to the mic to lay it all on the line. Words don’t exactly do it justice, so take a watch and listen to see the beginning of a revolution:

With there having already been a Mimikyu rap, and after Pikachu briefly spoke in the latest movie, I was most surprised by the characters making their anime noises instead of any actual lyrics. Then the real beauty of this started to sink in: Mimikyu wearing a microphone on a chain, the wooden crowd reactions, the “HARLEM” banner in the background.

This is art.

My biggest complaint here has to be that, despite clear use of auto-tune, Pikachu still wins. Mimikyu doesn’t need any of that over produced garbage to speak the truth — Mimikyu keeps it real. It just goes to show the rampant bias at work here keeping the real talent down.
