Fans and critics alike have speculated the Nintendo Switch to be a hot toy this holiday season, and Adobe Digital Insights has the data to back up all the positive claims. With the console being available in the market for nine months and the high success of its sales, Nintendo is altering its predictions to 14 million units sold worldwide by March 31st, 2018. That’s why it should come to no surprise how the system fared this Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Currently showing data for November 11th (Veteran’s Day) and November 22nd through the 25th, the Nintendo Switch has appeared in the Top 5 Selling Products.
- November 11th, Veteran’s Day: 4th place
- November 22nd: 3rd place
- November 23rd, Thanksgiving: 1st place
- November 24th, Black Friday: 1st place
- November 25th: 4th place
Super Mario Odyssey hit the number five spot on November 22nd. As for Nintendo’s competitors, PlayStation VR and the Xbox One X also appeared on these lists. Sony’s discount on the PS VR helped secure it the fourth spot on November 22nd. Microsoft’s Xbox One X did end up beating the Nintendo Switch, just selling enough to take the third spot on November 25th. Other than those two days, both systems have yet to make an appearance.
Adobe’s data “measures 80% of online transactions at the largest 100 U.S. web retailers (Source: Internet Retailer 2017). The report model is based on an analysis of 1 trillion visits to over 4,500 retail websites and 55 million SKUs. Product analysis is based on more than 6 million orders per day on average during November and December.” While not complete, the sample is large enough to prove that Nintendo is to “win” this holiday shopping season.
With Nintendo out in full force at malls across the country, as well as having the Nintendo Switch show up in various “Best of” lists this holiday season, this superstar has never made rising among the ranks look so easy.
