Way back in July of last year, hot on the heels of Pokémon GO’s release, Legendary Entertainment announced that it would be adapting the still-unlocalized Detective Pikachu for the big screen. Now, over a year later, things seem to be finally progressing.

Omega Underground reports that the film is set to start production on January 15, 2018. As announced last year, it will be directed by Rob Letterman, who previously worked on Goosebumps, Gulliver’s Travels and Shark Tale.

It’s worth noting that while filming will take place in London, UK, the movie is said to be set within the Pokémon universe. Chances are it’ll still borrow liberally from the city though, considering Detective Pikachu himself wears a stereotypical Sherlock Holmes hat.

We’ll be sure to bring more on the movie as it progresses.
