The video game industry is filled with intriguing beat ’em up concepts, from the post-apocalyptic setting of Double Dragon to Marge whipping Mr. Smithers with her hair in The Simpsons Arcade Game. That said, the indie devs at Fully Illustrated and Dark Wind Media are almost on another level entirely, letting you brutally punch and stab your way through Roman Britain circa 120 A.D. in their new game Wulverblade.

Yet another game to be announced for the Nintendo Switch out of today’s Nindies Summer Showcase stream, Wulverblade seeks to portray ancient Britain somewhat accurately, with real people and locales featured throughout its 8 levels of gorey gameplay.

The developers have confirmed that Wulverblade is 100% complete and is simply going through a final bug testing phase before it hits the Switch next month ahead of the PS4, Xbox One and Steam versions. We’ll bring news of its release date as and when it happens.
