Getting a look behind the scenes at how something you’ve loved for years and years is a rare treat, and this new video is a good example of just that. Game Informer recently had the opportunity to pull back the curtain on Game Freak, the development studio behind the Pokémon series since the beginning. There’s plenty of great details and passion from longtime Director and Composer Junichi Masuda shown in the video below.

Topics covered include how lucky it was to be able to finish the original games despite computer crashes, some of Masuda-san’s journals chronicling ideas in the lead up to Black & White, concept art and sketches from multiple games, and even a discussion on sound design from the original games. It’s a pleasure being able to hear not just the specific details of how these games came to be, but also seeing how fondly someone so ingrained in their creation can look back at them.
