Serving as a celebration of the classic series of games, Sonic Mania has been pulling pieces and zones from multiple games. Following up on the special and bonus stages and time attack, we now know that Competition Mode will be coming back as well. Seen in Sonic 3 & Knuckles, this puts you and another player in the same zone at the same time while pitting you against one another in a variety of fronts as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles.

It’s not all about going fast here, as time is just one of the metrics tracked. There are also rings on hand, total rings, score and items found to figure who’s the winner. You’ll be able to toggle settings to a point, like deciding which items actually appear and how many rounds it takes to declare a winner.

You can take on all of Sonic Mania’s modes once the game launches next week on August 15th!
