In a surprise announcement, DrinkBox Studios revealed via Twitter that Severed is set to slice up some monster limbs on Nintendo Switch — starting today, no less! That’s right, swipe savvy heroes: you can head into the eShop this very instant ahead of Thursday’s regular refresher and download the seductive slasher without delay.

For those who may have missed it, Severed is a lovingly crafted cross between Metroidvania games and dungeon crawlers. Players assume control of Sasha, a one-armed warrior wielding a living sword, as she embarks on a journey through a nightmarish world in search of her family. Solving puzzles, discovering secrets and battling a host of grotesque monsters are all done using intuitive swipe-based touch controls: a deceptively simple mechanic full of incredible depth and creativity. Most mesmerizing is DrinkBox’s trademark use of clean visuals and blocky, vibrant colors which perfectly match the game’s ethereal setting. Ultimately, it’s a fantastic followup to 2013’s Guacamelee! that absolutely deserves your attention.

Don’t just take my word for it. Our very own Ben Fruzzetti gave it a rave review during its Wii U debut last year, praising its vivid, violent combat, compelling narrative and unique sense of style.

So what are you waiting for? Pick it up today in the Nintendo Switch eShop for the low price of $14.99.
