Cave Story+ looks fantastic on Switch, making it stand out even amongst all the other versions and ports throughout the years. Part of this is due to a revamped visual style, giving the sprites more polish and higher resolution to really stand out even in handheld mode. If you want something a little more retro, though then Nicalis has got you covered.

A new update available today allows players to toggle to a Classic visual style in place of the Remastered default. This’ll make the game as blocky as you remember it, and with the available audio toggles already existing you can turn back the clock and remember what it was like to play this one when it released over ten years ago.

If you still haven’t given Cave Story+ a go, you can see what we thought of it as a game and on Switch. If you’re the type that likes physical copies you have even more reason to check it out, with a handful of extras coming with the cartridge version.
