It’s no surprise that Splatoon 2 is letting players get their hands on it just a little bit earlier. The first game had multiple Testfires, and we even had one for the sequel a few months back. But doing the same thing again and again just isn’t the Inkopolis way, and to keep things fresh Nintendo had a bit of a surprise for us.

On July 15th, one week before the game’s release, a Splatfest World Premiere will take place, giving fresh fish and seasoned squids alike the chance to see what these competitions are all about. This one’s to be MC’d by Off the Hook, the new duo that’s makin’ waves, and will settle the score on which is better: cake or ice cream?

You can download the software from the eShop later today, but won’t be able to play until the 15th, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., PT.

During today’s Direct it was also announced that you can party up with friends during Splatfests, though at this time we don’t know if that particular feature will be included in the World Premiere.

With new faces and a whole heap of more Splatfests to squabble over, it’s gonna feel good to be back on that familiar turf. Let us know if you’re rising to the occasion with Team Cake, or ready stayin’ frosty in support of Ice Cream. Look forward to more on the Splatfest World Premiere when it’s live next week!
