After Mario Kart 8 Deluxe showed a surprising leap over the original Wii U game in terms of resolution and stability, many Nintendo fans have been wondering if the next Wii U port, Pokkén Tournament DX, could be getting the same treatment. Thankfully the folks over at Digital Foundry managed to snag some footage from E3 and have compared and contrasted both versions in a new video.

The most significant change is a bump from the limited 960 x 720 resolution to a more standard 1280 x 720. This gain in pixels will definitely make the image clearer, especially when combined with improved texture filtering. That said, it’s still not as impressive as Mario Kart 8’s jump from 720p to 1080p when docked.

Likewise, Pokkén Tournament DX still lacks anti-aliasing, though this is likely deliberate to make sure the game sticks at a stable 60fps with minimal latency, two things that are essential for fighting games.

Still, with a few months to go until Pokkén Tournament DX’s September 22nd launch we could see some improvements. Keep checking back for more news on the upcoming fighter.
