E3 2017 has come and, as always, Digital Foundry is on the case with a tech-focused take on the latest games. Nintendo’s announcements are no exceptions, and the Eurogamer off-shoot has just released a video diving deep into Super Mario Odyssey.

There are plenty of interesting facts to learn from the video. Citizens of New Donk City animate at 30fps, for example, while the rest of the game runs at 60. Likewise, to give the city a bustling feeling, these NPCs are rendered as 2D sprites until Mario gets close enough.

Unfortunately, we also get confirmation that the game renders at 720p, even when docked. This is likely just what it takes to get the game running at the solid 60fps Mario is now known for.

No doubt Nintendo will continue optimizing the game as we approach launch, so quite a few things may change before Super Mario Odyssey arrives on October 27th!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
