After the successful Virtual Console release of the first generation of games, it was only a matter of time until we made our way back to Johto on the 3DS. During today’s Nintendo Direct, Pokémon Gold & Silver versions were confirmed to be making their way to the more modern handhelds with full Pokémon Bank support later this year.

There was, unfortunately, no sign of Crystal, the enhanced third edition starring Suicune, during the presentation. For fans eager to start a fresh adventure with Chikorita, Cyndaquil or Totodile, you’ll be able to do so when Gold & Silver release on September 22nd.

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
