The next game from Tokyo RPG Factory, the developers of I Am Setsuna, has been announced. Titled Lost Sphear, it has a lot in common with the studio’s prior journey in terms of graphics and gameplay but the setting looks a little less dreary. Check out the first trailer:

Lost Sphear stars a young man who encounters an unforeseen phenomenon and heads out to face an ominous power that threatens the fabric of reality. The journey will involve reawakening “the power of Memory” to restore the world.

The gameplay seems to build upon the battle systems found in I Am Setsuna while adding in a new wrinkle – Machine Equipment. More specifics have yet to be revealed.

Lost Sphear launches in early 2018 for Nintendo Switch and there will be a physical edition. Those who pre-order the game from the Square Enix Online Store will get two downloadable tracks from the soundtrack composed by Tomoki Miyoshi, the 23 year old wunderkind who previously composed I Am Setsuna.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
