One of the most frustrating parts of MyNintendo is the inability to register physical games and get gold coins, with Nintendo forcing you to go digital to get the benefits. It looks like that is finally changing with the Switch, with players being able to register physical carts from the system’s settings.

The info comes via an updated MyNintendo Missions page, under the “Purchases” section. So long as you buy a Switch game with an eShop value of $40 or more, you’ll get a certain amount of Gold Coins.

To register, you simply select the game on the Switch home screen and hit the + or – button, where you select “My Nintendo Rewards Program” and then “Earn Points”.

It’s worth noting that you get less than if you simply buy from the eShop – for a $40 digital purchase you get 50 Gold Coins, versus the 10 for going physical.

Each cart can only be registered once, so if you borrow a friend’s or buy it used and the reward has already been claimed, you’re out of luck. Likewise, the coins will only be available for two years from the game’s release date.

We’ll be sure to let you know if and when Switch rewards are available via MyNintendo as soon as we get news.
