Further cementing its place as probably the single most functional amiibo, Yacht Club Games announced new features that the Shovel Knight amiibo will bring to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove, the upcoming version of Shovel Knight.
In addition to the exclusive challenges, multiplayer mode (which will now be available without the amiibo), and creating and saving custom characters to the amiibo, the new version of the game lets amiibo owners have a new buddy in the form of the Fairy of Shovelry. This adorable little shovel boy can be acquired from Madame Meeber, a new character. Talking to her and scanning the amiibo lets the player be accompanied by the new buddy, who will attack enemies, dig for treasure, and look for secrets.
In addition, this new companion is available in all of the campaigns: Shovel of Hope (the default Shovel Knight campaign), Plague of Shadows, and the upcoming Specter of Torment. Yacht Club Games is continuing its tradition of incredible bang-for-your-buck in terms of free updates, and we can’t wait to see what’s new for the game down the road.
