After E3 last year Nintendo of America broke a personal record, with its first major Breath of the Wild trailer rocketing up in views to become the most watched video on the company’s YouTube channel. Now, over half a year later, that crown has been usurped and replaced with a googly-eyed cap.

At the time of writing, Super Mario Odyssey’s first trailer has just overtaken Breath of the Wild’s 11.2 million views with 11.25 million and rising. This is pretty noteworthy – Breath of the Wild essentially stole last year’s E3 and has inspired discussion and speculation for months, whereas Mario Odyssey only made its debut three weeks ago in a typically quiet month for hype. Perhaps that’s just the draw of Nintendo’s biggest mascot.

It is worth mentioning that neither trailer is anywhere close to being the most popular video on Nintendo’s YouTube channel – that honor goes to the initial Switch reveal trailer. That first look at the system has amassed a whopping 26 million views in just over three months.

Regardless of the ordering, the fact all of these videos essentially focus on Switch titles just goes to show that the system is definitely making an impact on social media. Here’s hoping that eagerness translates into sales once the system is on store shelves next month.
