One of the more peculiar game announcements to come out of the Nintendo Switch presentation was Project Octopath Traveler, a Square Enix game from the producer of the Bravely series – Tomoya Asano.

Now he and his team have opened a new Facebook page devoted to their future projects, with Octopath Traveler being at the forefront (although the Bravely series is referenced in the About section.) Here’s their first message, translation courtesy of Gematsu:

“This is Square Enix producer Tomoya Asano.

It’s my pleasure to finally announce our newest project, the fully original role-playing game Octopath Traveler!

While we can’t reveal any specific details quite yet (keep an eye out for promotional media in the near future), we’d like to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at the development process in the meantime.

A long road lies ahead of us, but we hope that you’ll come along for the journey!”

It’s interesting that there are no references to Silicon Studio, the developers of the two 3DS Bravely games. It could be that this new “Asano Team” is a more direct studio under Square Enix, but it’s hard to say at the moment.

We’ll be sure to bring you more news on Octopath Traveler and the Bravely series as it is unveiled.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
