A small amount of information regarding Project Sonic 2017 has been revealed by Sega.

At a meet and greet in Japan, Sega was bombarded with questions about Sonic 2017, and a few answers were given. First, fans have been wondering since the announcement trailer if Modern Sonic levels and Classic Sonic levels would return after the debut of the format in Sonic Generations. The answer? Yes, but there’s more than that in store.

Sega also revealed that a new character will be featured in the game, as well as another feature besides the 2D and 3D Sonic levels. While no further information was given, I’d say it’s safe to assume the new character will be the center of this new gameplay feature.

We can only hope Sonic Team doesn’t pull another Werehog on us, as that could really hurt what is turning out to be a promising Sonic title. Obviously, information is hard to come by, but a sequel to Generations can only be a step in the right direction for the Sonic franchise.

Project Sonic 2017 is coming to Nintendo Switch late next year. Now that we have an official name for the console, here’s hoping the game gets an official title soon!
