3DS owners may remember IronFall Invasion, the most recent game from the developers at VD-Dev. An eShop exclusive third person shooter, the game was one of the first to use the New 3DS’s C-Stick and boasted impressive graphics for the handheld system. Now the studio is back with a brand new game – RISE: Race the Future, which will be heading to the Wii U, 3DS, and eventually the enigmatic NX.

The game will be an arcade racer similar to the classic Sega Rally series, where players will drive futuristic cars around varied environments thanks to “air lifting” technology that allows the wheels to traverse any surface, even water. The cars in the game were designed by automotive expert Anthony Jannarelly, and are the main focus of the game’s first trailer. Check it out:

It should be noted that while the game is slated for the NX it’s probable that VD-Dev is just planning ahead. Then again, considering Ironfall Invasion was heavily advertised alongside the launch of the New 3DS, there’s always the possibility the studio has a close relationship with Nintendo and already has development kits.

The Wii U, 3DS, and other system versions of RISE: Race the Future will be releasing this winter, whereas the NX version will land in 2017. We’ll be sure to bring you more on the game as it comes in!
