Development of a new Sonic the Hedgehog game appears to have been unceremoniously announced today via Sonic’s official twitter account.

This official Sonic twitter handle is known for its hot topic sense of humor and attitude that matches the blue blur himself, but this seems like a pretty straightforward indication that a new title is in the works. The news gels nicely with a previously announced Sonic the Hedgehog 25th anniversary party happening in San Diego on July 22nd. This likely means Sonic will be a no show at E3 this year, but at least we won’t have to wait long to see what’s in store for him next.
While none of this information comes as a great surprise, it’s still somehow comforting just knowing that Sega hasn’t given up on its original golden goose just yet.
