Monopoly variants are a dime a dozen these days, especially within the realm of video games. Nintendo alone has provided multiple themed variants of the famed century old board game for many of its most popular franchises, including The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon. Today that trend continues with the announcement of a retro inspired Super Mario Bros. Collector’s Edition, and boy does it look gorgeous!

All the traditional tokens have been replaced with iconic 8-bit stylized versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, a Super mushroom and a 1-up mushroom. More creative are the depictions of the traditional houses and hotels, which are swapped out for flag poles and castles, respectively. The board itself bears little resemblance to the original Monopoly’s art style, with the exception of the four corner spaces (as is traditional in themed variants). Most notably, all properties have been replaced with select stages from the NES classic with beautiful depictions of the various items and enemies the series is known for. Using a ? Block to represent Chance? Genius!
