New 3DS owners rejoice; three of the finest offerings of the 16-bit era are now available to download! The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroid, and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest can all be purchased for $7.99 from the eShop, giving fans an excuse to play old favorites and new players the chance to see what all the fuss is about!

Each of these titles are in the running for best in their respective series and I’d be hard pressed to pick just one as a recommendation. Super Metroid in particular is a masterpiece of its genre, bringing a foreboding and lonely sense of exploration to the handheld, letting you work on your completion percentage and best times anywhere you go. Donkey Kong Country 2 put Diddy in the spotlight and brought the world Dixie Kong; and while some of the stages can be absolutely brutal, the soundtrack is incredible and varied. Not to be left out, Link to the Past brought us the Dark World and one of Link’s finest collections of weaponry the series has ever known.

These titles join the likes of EarthBound, Super Mario World, and F-Zero as the pioneers of Super Nintendo titles making their way to the 3DS. Hopefully the next batch isn’t too far off, with titles like Kirby Super Star and the original Star Fox begging to be re-released!

When he isn’t writing for Nintendo Wire, Ricky’s anticipating the next Kirby, Fire Emblem, or if the stars ever align, Mother 3 to be released. Till then he’ll have the warm comfort of Super Smash Bros. to keep him going.
