UPDATE (2/11): 15 minutes of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team footage was added to the European Wii U Virtual Console today. Check it out below!

While Pokémon fans in North America and Japan have been enjoying Super Mystery Dungeon for months now, European players have to wait until February 19th. To celebrate this imminent launch, Nintendo is releasing the two games that started it all on the Wii U Virtual Console: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team.

These two games were originally released during the transition period between the Game Boy Advance and the first DS, so Red Rescue Team was released on the former and Blue Rescue Team on the latter. Fundamentally they’re the same game, but Blue Rescue Team features extra options taking advantage of the second screen display, and, in keeping with tradition, there are a few exclusive Pokémon in each version.

European fans will be able to delve into dungeons this Thursday, with Red Rescue Team costing €6.99/£6.29 and Blue Rescue Team being slightly pricier at €9.99/£8.99. There’s no word on a North American release yet, but it isn’t unusual for Virtual Console releases to end up dropping on the same day across territories, as was the case two weeks ago with Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
