Nintendo is bringing back the original Pokémon GameBoy games to the 3DS eShop as digital download titles on February 27th.

This date is significant for the franchise, as February 27th was the original release date of Pokémon Red and Green in Japan. The games will play exactly as you remember them, but with one notable exception: the games will support the 3DS’ wireless communication capabilities. This will allow players to trade and battle Pokémon, just like you did back in the day through a link cable.

Japan will also be getting physical boxes for each game, containing a code to download the title, a magnet shaped like the original cart, a manual and a map of the Kanto region. It is still unconfirmed whether or not any other regions will receive the same treatment.
