WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ADVENTURE MODE FOLLOW BELOW!

The ultimate puzzle mash-up has returned with Puyo Puyo Tetris 2! Even the most seasoned player will be starting this one with a clean slate when it comes to characters, but we’re here to share the where and how to unlock them and add them to your Skill Battle team.

How do I unlock characters in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2?

Unlocking characters in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 is fairly straightforward. All you have to do is play through Adventure mode. By progressing through the game’s story, you’ll gain access to a handful of characters that are blacked out on the stage select screen. In order, they are:

Character NameHow to Unlock
Dark PrinceStage 3-5
MarleStage 4-5
EcoloStage 5-8
ExStage 6-8
AllyStage 6-S4
SquaresStage 7-8

Unlocking these characters will also add them to your Edit Team options for Skill Battle, as well as their alt voice option.

On the same note, you’ll be able to add more characters to Edit Team (over in the “Options & Data” menu) as you encounter them in Adventure mode. Unlike the above examples, you can still play as them from the start in nearly every other mode from the start. Speaking of “from the start,” you should have access to Ringo, Arle, Amitie, Tee, O, and Ess right away!

As for the rest of the cast, here’s where to unlock them for Skill Battle:

Character NameHow to Unlock
MaguroStage 1-2
RisukumaStage 1-3
Jay & ElleStage 2-3
AiStage 2-4
ZedStage 2-5
LemresStage 2-8
SuketoudataStage 3-2A
Draco CentaurousStage 3-2B

SigStage 3-3B

FeliStage 3-3C

RulueStage 3-4C

How do I unlock alternate voices in Puyo Puyo Tetris 2?

Unlike the full character unlocks, facing these characters doesn’t gift you their alt voices. To pick those up, head to the in-game Shop (found under “Options & Data” from the main menu) and you can purchase them for the majority of the cast. These Voice Changes all cost 1000 Credits, which you can earn by playing through the game’s modes – including Adventure, as you work towards unlocking the cast and experiencing the story.
