SPOILER WARNING: The following article discusses possible upcoming and unannounced content for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. If you would prefer not knowing about it, we suggest you turn back now!
A recent datamine of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has found text strings for what could be two game modes returning to the series after an absence from Ultimate’s original release.
The discovery was made on a Discord channel, while YouTube channel Source Gaming offers a short-and-sweet explanation of what exactly was found.
The strings for the game modes were found within a file called ui_howtoplay_db.prc, which relates to the “How to Play” section within the game’s “Help” menu.
The file references both howtoplay_stage_builder.html and howtoplay_homerun.html, suggesting both Stage Builder and Homerun Contest modes will make their debuts in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
While these HTML files don’t exist within the game at this time, Source Gaming’s video speculates these are most likely placeholder names to be added in a future version of the game.
During last month’s Nintendo Direct presentation, a section dedicated to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate announced the title’s version 3.0 update, along with some mystery as to what would be added in it.
Source Gaming suggests players will most likely see these modes in April, when the update drops, although the video’s narrator reminds viewers this is only speculation based on the datamine findings and the timing of them and the upcoming update.
What do you think? Will we see Stage Builder and Homerun Contest in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate soon? Let us know in the comments!
