Nintendo Switch Online’s NES game library has been contentious to say the least since the service launched back in September, with a slow drip feed of iconic titles gradually filling up the library. If a new datamine is anything to go by, though, the service could be getting a lot more exciting in the future.

As dataminer KappucinoHeck discovered, 22 SNES titles are name dropped in the code for NES Online, with descriptors from prior NES games. Here’s the full list:

  • Super Mario Kart
  • Super Soccer
  • Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
  • Demon’s Crest
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Stunt Race FX
  • Kirby’s Dream Course
  • Pop’n Twinbee
  • Star Fox
  • Contra 3
  • Kirby Super Star
  • Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts
  • Kirby’s Dream Land 3
  • Super Metroid
  • Super Mario World
  • Pilotwings
  • F-ZERO
  • Star Fox 2
  • Super Punch-Out!!
  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
  • Super Mario All-Stars
  • Breath of Fire 2

While it’s true many of those games were on the SNES Classic, it’s not a 1:1 match, with some games like Breath of Fire 2 being new additions. Also, as Twitter user LuigiBlood points out, all of the games listed have a full Japanese description, while Super Mario World also has an English translation, suggesting they aren’t mere placeholders.

Another connection to the Classic consoles was found by fellow dataminer OatmealDome, who discovered three other emulators, one belonging to the SNES Classic and two enigmas…

Hopefully Nintendo will reveal its future plans for the Online Service’s retro game selection sooner rather than later!

Whether it’s an exciting new entry in a series long established or a weird experiment meant only for the dedicated, Tom is eager to report on it. Rest assured, if Nintendo ever announces Elite Beat Agents 2, he’ll be there.
