In January of 2018, the news broke that the creator of Downwell, Ojiro “Moppin” Fumoto, was hired by Nintendo. After working at the studio for almost a full year, however, he’s announced that he’ll be leaving Nintendo to pursue indie development again.
I was working at Nintendo for most of 2018 but I quit at the end of the year to pursue being an indie dev again. Working there was an incredible experience but ultimately I found my passion to simply be making a thing I want to make.
So yeah, I'll get working on that this year!— Ojiro Fumoto (@moppin_) January 1, 2019
For anyone worried the split wasn’t amicable, Fumoto seems quite jovial about it in the tweet’s replies.
We wish him all the best with his next endeavors!
