Somehow, Sakurai always manages to pull out some kind of surprise. By registering the game in a special, limited window of time you’ll receive the Mario series’ Piranha Plant as a fully playable fighter. You can’t make this up — a potted, eyeless, plant will join the ranks in Nintendo’s flagship crossover. With a Final Smash that brings out Petey Piranha with his Subspace Emissary cages, it’s a fun albeit strange callback that simultaneously fits in Smash and breaks precedents.
