If you’ve tuned into Twitter the last few days, chances are you’ve ended up face-to-face with Bowsette. A phenomenon coming along thanks to the Super Crown item in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, it’s given rise Peachified designs of many Mushroom Kingdom characters. Thanks to the Art of Super Mario Odyssey though, we now know Nintendo was a couple steps ahead.

Granted, this isn’t the exact same as what’s been going around via Super Crown and the more memetic Bowsette is indeed distinct from Nintendo’s own Koopa Peach. By the look of things, this little comic has Bowser tossing his own “K” cap (more than likely with some Cappy-esque hat ghost of its own) onto Peach instead of Bowser putting on the Crown. Still, the similarities are striking and it’s possible this little concept could’ve led to the Super Crown in the first place.
