Reggie Fils-Aimé said he expects the Switch to get third party games around the same time as other platforms. Since the Switch launched last year, it’s become routine that the system receives multi-platform games much later than other consoles. Recent examples of that include Fortnite, Wolfenstein II, and Dark Souls Remastered. According to the Nintendo of America President, however, that trend will change over time.

Speaking with The Verge, Reggie said the following:

“We’re talking today about a platform that is 16 months old… The development cycle today is multiple years. So I would argue that beginning at the end of this year, or next year, that gap will have closed. Because key developers have had the development systems, they’ll have been working to create content for our platform from the beginning. That’s what is going to close that time gap.”

Reggie also made sure to mention that Nintendo is trying to create a very diverse lineup of first party, third party, and indie titles — a dream come true for fans of every game genre. It’s comforting to know that we can all look forward to such a steady stream of releases on a pretty consistent basis.
