E3’s show floor is still being set up, with doors not opening until Tuesday. The anticipation for this massive gaming event is building, though luckily we have a parade of conferences to get us hyped.
EA kicked off EA Play, their own event for fans and media, today. Livestreamed for all online, there was only one title shown that’s appearing on the Nintendo Switch this year – FIFA 19.
Not a complete surprise as we saw FIFA 19 among the leaked list of titles that are part of Nintendo’s booth set up. Given FIFA 18’s success on the Switch, it was still wonderful to see the next iteration appear.
Yet, if you were hoping to see FIFA 19 be on Frostbite, sadly that isn’t the case. Echoing last year’s FIFA entry, FIFA 19 is getting a modified version for the Nintendo Switch. With EA not ready to bring Frostbite to the system, that means the story mode (The Journey: Champions) will not be available. What is available, however, is the UEFA Champions League.
“The UEFA Champions League has been one of the most requested features from players for over a decade, and we’re so excited for one of the World’s biggest competitions to join The World’s Game in FIFA 19,” said Aaron McHardy, Executive Producer for EA SPORTS FIFA. “We are elevating the experience this year in so many ways, from integrating UEFA Champions League content across the game, to adding a variety of new features that bring more control to gameplay.”
Celebrated immensely, the Nintendo Switch version is being named the Champions Edition. When pre-orders go live, players can look forward to the following:
- Up to 20 FIFA Ultimate Team Jumbo Premium Gold Packs (one per week for 20 weeks)
- Play from September 25 with three days early access
- UEFA Champions League Gold Player (One 80 to 83 rated gold player from qualified teams)
- Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. loan items for seven FUT matches
- Special Edition FUT kits designed by FIFA soundtrack artists
FIFA 19 Champions Edition for Nintendo Switch will be out on September 28th, 2018.
