In Nintendo’s recent financial report, Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima stated that “[Nintendo has] not reached a satisfactory profit point yet” in regards to mobile games — though he also states that Super Mario Run has continued to grow in downloads, and even a year after release has maintained 20 million monthly active users. Fire Emblem Heroes, which recently celebrated its first year anniversary, is also a standout mention, since in-game sales have continued to grow. It’s also noted that Fire Emblem Heroes was expected to be most popular in Japan, but has had a steady growth in overseas sales.
As far as wanting to increase mobile revenue to meet satisfactory expectations, Nintendo has announced a new partnership with Cygames for a new mobile title, Dragalia Lost, in addition to receiving 5% of Cygames stock. Upcoming Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has also stated that Nintendo is looking to significantly boost its mobile business with a single blockbuster, but has not stated exactly what that blockbuster will be.
