The massive success of the Switch has been beneficial to more than just Nintendo – retailers are also taking in the dough from the huge hardware and software numbers the system is pulling in.

In a recent company earnings call, GameStop CEO Mike K. Mauler praised the Switch, noting that this is “a whole different platform” from the poor sales of the Wii U. Mauler went on to point out that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey were huge performers for GameStop.

Mauler then looked to the future, stating that 2018 looked promising, hinting at unannounced titles:

“I think, this year, when we look at the slate of titles — many of which haven’t been announced yet — this year looks also very, very strong. So, I think, at least for 2018, we’ll continue to see the strong software slate drive additional install based on the hardware and increase attach rate. We don’t have, really, visibility for ’19 yet, but for ’18, it should play out that way.”

Another tidbit from the call: the Switch was credited for a 45% increase in hardware sales for the quarter, and a 28% increase for the year.

The Switch looks like it has a strong future with titles like Super Smash Bros., Metroid Prime 4, and Bayonetta 3 on the horizon, but what unannounced titles could Mauler be hinting at? Perhaps we will find out at E3.
