Bear with me here. Yes, the squids of Splatoon and water do not mix at all. We’ve all taken one too many dips at Mahi-Mahi Resort at the wrong time. For us humans and sea creatures outside of the digital world of Splatoon, though, water is pretty awesome. During the summer it’s even better, so when the Kyoto Aquarium joins up with Nintendo for some Splatoon themed fun, then I guess it’s OK to ignore canon for a few weeks.
From July 15th to August 31st, guests at the Kyoto Aquarium can enjoy “Suizokukaan ~ Summer Vacation ~”. While the event is aimed for a younger age group it honestly sounds a whole lot of fun.
There will be a play area for kids and they’ll need an adult to supervise. Referred to as “Suzukakan Splash Time”, you will get wet as you have your own Splattershot to shoot at targets while near a “waterfall”. Attendees will need to secure a time slot in order to participate.
Special exhibits of certain sea creatures will be out in their tanks along with artwork from the game. No clue if will see the Squid Sisters, Annie and Moe, Spyke, Sheldon, Crusty Sean, and more… though if they have an octopus on hand, think he or she will like DJ Octavio’s tunes?
Similar to Pokémon Centers, a photo location will be available. Here a display will feature Inkling Girl and Inkling Squid swimming with some other odd looking sea creatures. Maybe penguins would like to slip and slide in Turf Wars?
Finally there is the merchandise. There will be some special items to commemorate the promotion while also selling the game onsite. T-shirts and tote bags will be available for purchase as well as a few activities to get kids engaged with merging Splatoon and their real-life aquatic versions and friends. In order to purchase any of the above, you’ll have to pay for a ticket to enter the aquarium.
First 7-11, then Tower Records, and now Kyoto Aquarium… where do you think Splatoon 2 will appear next since they have land, “air” and sea covered?
