As part of Gamescom 2026, outlet Nintendo Life checked out the playable build of 007 First Light on Switch 2 and walked away rather impressed. Having recorded some over-the-shoulder footage from the show floor, we now have a fantastic idea of what the final game will look like when it releases sometime later this year. As is to be expected from IO Interactive’s previous work with Hitman 3 on the console, this is a smartly optimized version of the game for people who have decided to stick with Nintendo’s platform as their main device.
With how long this port of First Light had been delayed, there was a worry that IO Interactive would wind up canceling the conversion before the end of 2026. Thankfully, that isn’t the case, and the game seems to be in good form. It’s hard to tell what resolution the game is running at from the footage, but the frame rate is clearly targeting 30 fps. Visually, it seems about on par with the Series S version, which means blurry visuals and lower quality effects, but it’s still recognizably James Bond.
007 First Light Switch 2 release date
We still don’t know when 007 First Light will release for Nintendo Switch 2, but I imagine with Gamescom concluded, IO Interactive will be getting back to polishing off this port. Seeing as how the demo doesn’t come off like a wildly incomplete conversion, I would imagine the late 2026 release window is still in play. That should do well around the holiday season if IO can stick the landing.
