In a livestream presentation held as part of Gamescom 2026, developer CD Projekt Red has detailed some technical information for its upcoming remaster of The Witcher 3 for Nintendo Switch 2. As is to be expected given the specifications of the Switch 2, this new port will be targeting 1080p in docked mode and 720p in handheld. Frame rates will be around 30–40 fps, with handheld mode utilizing VRR, and docked mode making use of 120 Hz output for supported displays.
Control-wise, The Witcher 3: Remastered will contain both gyro controls and mouse mode. Mouse can be set to either a dynamic system (where tilting the control will turn it on or off on a whim), or always-on. Gyro controls will simply assist with precision aiming by tilting the entire Joy-Con. Some motion patterns have been implemented, as well, but are entire optional. One example given is that when players raise the right Joy-Con, Geralt will whistle for his horse. That kind of recalls the Wii days, though I also love it.
The stream is rather long, but around the four-hour mark, you can see footage of the game running on Switch 2. It looks dramatically better than the Switch 1 port, which is to be expected. The developers are speaking Polish, expectedly, but you don’t really need much guidance to figure out what the visuals are telling you.
The Witcher 3: Remastered Switch 2 release date
With the comparatively more complex Cyberpunk 2077 making a splash on the Switch 2’s launch, many were hoping that The Witcher 3 would receive an upgrade from its impressive, though heavily compromised, Switch 1 port. Thankfully, owners of that version will receive this remaster for free regardless of whether they bought it digitally or physically. The Witcher 3: Remastered will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 on September 29th, 2026.
