With the recent D23 showcase unveiling a ton of new information about Kingdom Hearts IV, fans might have expected Square Enix to keep the train running with consistent updates until the game’s launch in late 2027. That doesn’t seem to be the case according to directors Tetsuya Nomura and Tai Yasue, who confirmed in a new Famitsu interview that there will be “a bit of a gap” before any new information hits the internet.
Speaking with the outlet, Nomura said, “The release is still scheduled for late next year, and the development team is in the final stages, so we’ll be focusing on that for a while. We’re currently considering when to release the next information, so there will likely be a bit of a gap.” Adding that the company will gradually release new info instead of waiting too long, he then said, “there will be something planned for next year’s 25th anniversary, so please look forward to the announcement.”
For those unaware, yesterday Square Enix announced that it will be holding a 25th anniversary event for Kingdom Hearts in the Roppongi district on February 5th, 2027. Being that it’s only six months away, I would imagine the next major update on the game will happen there. Square Enix is bound to confirm some other details beforehand, but we’ll probably get a reveal of a few more worlds at this big event.
