The trend of the Nintendo Switch helping to push otherwise niche games to mega numbers continues with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. As part of its Q1 2026 financial report, Nintendo has revealed that the long-anticipated sequel to the quirky 3DS life simulator has moved over eight million copies since going on sale in early April. That is a pretty decent increase over its predecessor, which is listed at around 6.73 million sales as of March 2025. It seems Nintendo has a bona fide hit on its hands.
Breaking it down a bit more granularly, Nintendo states in the report that Living the Dream sold through 7.94 million units during its first quarter, but has since pushed past eight million as of August 5th, 2026. Seeing as how the quarter ended on June 30th, that means the game exploded in popularity during its first three months on sale. Considering how many memes and clips I saw shared across social media, that adds up. People were having a blast with it.
Going further, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream sold 2.55 million units in Japan, and 5.39 million globally. It has become the best-selling game in the series and seems poised to break the 10 million barrier by the end of 2026. As Nintendo states, “it is being enjoyed by people of all ages, regardless of gender.” There’s something universal about Tomodachi Life, perhaps because it’s simply so silly.
