Yesterday’s surprise reveal of a Star Fox 64 remake for the Nintendo Switch 2 came with a hidden bonus, as repeat viewings of the Direct presentation have revealed a clever Easter egg.

The showcase ended with a new prologue cutscene, showing events leading up to the tragic fate of Fox’s father, James McCloud. Pausing around the 15:41 mark in Nintendo of America’s Direct (below) provides a close-up look at some text on the side of Peppy Hare’s Arwing.

SNES fans may recognize “Super FX technology” as a reference to the Super FX chip, which powered the 3D graphics of the original 1993 Star Fox.

The following lines on the ship read: “See NPPG 045496691271 97-10 for complete instructions.” This is far from a randomized code, as “NPPG” stands for “Nintendo Power Player’s Guide,” while the long number is the ISBN for Nintendo Power’s Star Fox 64 strategy guide.

The “97-10” number is likely a reference to Star Fox 64’s European launch in October 1997, where it received the localized title Lylat Wars.

Star Fox will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th, 2026. Pre-orders are available now on Amazon.
