Antony Starr, the actor behind unhinged villain Homelander in satirical superhero TV show The Boys, has responded to the idea of playing Resident Evil antagonist Albert Wesker.
Earlier this month, Starr, during a panel at Big Texas Comicon (via Gameriv), responded positively when asked if he’d ever consider playing Wesker in a Resident Evil adaptation.
In a new interview with Comicbook.com, Starr was asked if he was serious about wanting to play the character. While he didn’t completely shut down the idea, he did believe that he may be too old for the role.
“I don’t even know what it is, man,” Starr said.
“So people keep bringing this up. The only thing I have in common with that is blonde hair, which I’ve gotten rid of as you can see. I think you probably need someone younger. I’m 50.”
Despite Starr’s hesitancy, his Boys co-star Jensen Ackles, who plays Soldier Boy, insisted in the interview that Starr was “perfect” for the role.
“That would be amazing. I would watch it,” Ackles added.
You can watch the full interview below, which features a number of other actors from The Boys cast. The Wesker topic starts from the 9:14 mark.
Starr likely wasn’t aware that Wesker was in his late 40s during the events of Resident Evil 5, so his age wouldn’t necessarily be an issue depending on the script.
The late Lance Reddick was the last actor to be cast as a live-action Albert Wesker, playing the evil mastermind as well as his clones in Netflix’s Resident Evil TV series.
The next Resident Evil film will be released in theatres on September 18th, helmed by Weapons and Barbarian director Zach Cregger. Constantin Film CEO Oliver Berben told Deadline the film is “far away from everything that is connected to Resident Evil, only because Zach Cregger has his own style.” With this in mind, it is not expected to feature any characters from the games.
