Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Resident Evil 2, has said he wishes the latest game in the series had a mode that toned down its scares.

Clovers Inc., Kamiya’s game studio, posted a clip on X of the team enjoying Requiem.

“I’ve been saying for forever they should make a ‘non-scary’ mode,” he said as he watched a colleague playing the game.

“Look, I just want to enjoy the puzzles. The puzzles and the combat. I don’t need the scary stuff.”

This isn’t the first time Kamiya has been vocal regarding Resident Evil Requiem, as last month the legendary game director said he believes that people spoiling the game’s story online “deserve to die a thousand deaths.”

Kamiya has also directed many other critically acclaimed games throughout his career, including Bayonetta, Viewtiful Joe, The Wonderful 101, and Devil May Cry.

Clovers was founded by Kamiya in 2024 to develop a sequel to his beloved action-adventure title Ōkami. The new studio’s name is a reference to Capcom’s Clover Studio, developer of Ōkami, which dissolved in 2007.
