This week’s issue of Famitsu magazine (archived via Reddit) featured a two-page spread on the upcoming Ecco the Dolphin remaster/remake, and it confirmed one very important detail: the game will be launching on Nintendo Switch. There was no mention of whether a Switch 2 port would be available, but Nintendo fans will have the chance to re-experience one of Sega’s more quirky mascots of the 16-bit era.
Series creator Ed Annunziata was asked some questions for the feature, which we’ve run through Google Translate and provided in this article. The stated that the intention of this remaster was to allow players who may not have finished the game in their youth to finally see the closing levels of Ecco. Annuziata also wants to include all versions of the game, which include the 8-bit Master Drive/Game Gear port, the 16-bit Genesis/Sega CD port, and the 32-bit PC one. That will be in addition to the newly remastered version, which includes redrawn artwork and higher resolution sprites.
Annunziata also reiterates that a new title is in the works, with him asking fans to “look forward to further updates.” It’s likely way too early to see the new Ecco the Dolphin, especially since its Genesis sequel Tides of Time is reportedly also getting a remaster. While the Famitsu feature only mentions Switch as a release platform, the initial information about Ecco’s resurgence came from Xbox Wire in 2025. It probably goes without saying that the game will appear on every modern platform.
