Konami had a surprisingly large number of announcements at today’s State of Play stream. Along with unveiling a new Metal Gear Solid collection, Konami announced a brand-new Castlevania game developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin (the teams behind Dead Cells). Titled Belmont’s Curse, it’s actually the first new Castlevania game in 12 years. If you can believe it, the last game was Lords of Shadow 2.
Set 23 years after the events of Dracula’s Curse, which was one of the 3D Castlevania titles, it seems the emphasis in this game will be on combat more than exploration. The art style is actually quite reminiscent of Bloodstained, the spiritual successor to Castlevania that was created by Koji Igarashi (former producer of Castlevania). It’s exciting looking, which is something I haven’t been able to say about a Konami game for years.
When will Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse release?
Currently, there’s little known about the game and when it will even be out. Konami promises a 2026 launch, but we don’t know which platforms it will wind up on. Considering the pedigree of its developers, it’s likely a safe bet that it will be on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. I don’t believe it will be a Switch 2 exclusive.
